The Shwan “Fatty” Alkhatib Memorial Fund of “FattyFund” has been raising funds over the past 5 years to build a lasting tribute to Shwan. In the midst of grieving Shwan, we knew that we needed to incorporate Shwan’s incredible dedication to Kansas State, with his passion for learning, and the mission of Kansas State as a land-grant institution. We found a partner in the Kansas State Foundation and their vision to renovate Hale Library.
The Hale Library First Floor Renovation Project will dramatically enhance a building that already functions as the academic heart of the K-State campus. A new, more accessible first floor will include tech-enabled collaboration spaces and interdisciplinary services. This re-imagined space will provide students and faculty a place for connection and interaction—all located just steps away from critical research materials and assistance including the Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship, home of the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative.
The Hale Library renovation presents a tremendous opportunity to create a place that both honors the memory of Shwan and provides current Kansas State University students with a room that will enhance their learning. The money we are raising is going towards sponsoring a fully-equipped collaboration room to be named after Shwan as part of the renovation that is scheduled to break ground in Spring 2018.
We are excited about this project and hope that you will consider joining us in making this a reality.
