We have reached our $100,000 goal!

The Shwan “Fatty” Alkhatib Memorial Fund or “FattyFund” has been raising funds since Shwan’s passing in order to build a lasting tribute to Shwan. In the midst of grieving Shwan, we knew that we needed to incorporate Shwan’s incredible dedication to Kansas State, Shwan’s passion for learning, and Shwan’s belief in the mission of Kansas State as a land-grant institution.

We are very pleased to announce that we have found a fitting tribute to Shwan. As part of the Hale Library renovation, a brand new collaboration room on the first floor will be named for Shwan! The Hale Library renovation presents an opportunity to create a place that both honors the memory of Shwan and provides current Kansas State University students with a room that will enhance their learning. The room will be a perfect location for students to study, research, collaborate and learn. This room will make an impact and be dedicated to Shwan’s memory for generations of K-Staters to come.

Again, we are so happy that we were able to make this arrangement with K-State and the Library. For those of us who knew Shwan, Hale Library was his home away from home. The place that he felt most comfortable on campus and the place he spent hours studying. Shwan loved the library and it was a special place for him during his time at Kansas State.

The naming rights to the room are procured with a donation of $100,000. To date, in advance of FattyFest 2019, we have raised $80,000, leaving an obligation of $20,000. To that end, we are also extremely excited to announce that Shwan’s parents have extended an offer to us that they will match all money raised at this year’s FattyFest up to the amount needed to meet the remaining $20,000 obligation. With that opportunity, we are very hopeful that we can raise $10,000 this year and complete this effort now!
